Debt is owed to the travel writers who inspired this site. I was introduced to the concept of frugal travel by Arthur Frommer’s “England on 60 Dollars a Day.” For more than two decades, I tromped around London following Frommer’s advice. Later, Sandra Gustafson’s “Cheap Eats in London” and “Cheap Sleeps in London” proved that fine, yet inexpensive, food and lodging were possible in this famously expensive city. The Frugal Traveler column in the New York Times often has excellent advice. Most recently, James Sherman’s “Smart Luxury Values” suggested ways to find luxury for less.
